About This Tour
Embark on a truly once in a lifetime journey, following a classic route through New Zealand’s Southern Alps aboard the legendary TranzAlpine train. Travel from Christchurch across the Canterbury Plains, through braided river valleys, and into the unspoiled alpine landscapes of Arthur’s Pass. Spend time immersed in this pristine National Park, with soaring viaduct views, gentle mountain walks, alpine village charm, and a glimpse of authentic high country farming life. Experience the warm hospitality of the South Island at its best—from wild landscapes to refined comforts, this is New Zealand at its most iconic.
What to Expect
Pick up from your central city accommodation between 8:15- 8:45am.
Journey from Christchurch through Governor’s Bay, Gebbie’s Pass, and the twin lakes of Ellesmere and Forsyth. Ascend ""the hilltop"" for sweeping views over Akaroa Harbour, nestled inside an ancient volcanic crater.
Discover a charming township filled with French-colonial architecture, boutique craft shops, darling cafes, and idyllic photo spots in this former whaling depot.
Gear up with a wetsuit, mask, snorkel, and flippers for a once-in-a-lifetime swim alongside one of the world’s rarest dolphin species—found only in South Island waters. While aboard, keep an eye out for Little Blue Penguins, seals, and seabirds.
On your way back to Christchurch, stop at a local cheese factory to taste handcrafted New Zealand cheeses in a picturesque countryside setting.
This tour concludes with drop off to your accommodation at approximately 5:45
