What to Expect
Pick up from your central city accommodation between 7-7:45am.
Depart the city heading north through Canterbury’s rural heartland toward the coast.
Travel through rolling farmland and along dramatic coastal stretches as your guide shares insight into the landscapes and communities you pass enroute to Kaikōura.
On arrival, join an award-winning whale watching cruise, venturing into the deep waters off the Kaikōura coast in search of the resident sperm whales. The nutrient-rich marine environment also attracts dolphins, seals, and a wide variety of seabirds, with additional whale species appearing seasonally.
After the cruise, enjoy free time in Kaikōura, with opportunities to explore the coastal township, browse local shops, or relax along the waterfront. Lunch is available as an optional upgrade.
Later, visit a nearby fur seal colony, set against rugged shoreline with mountain backdrops rising sharply from the sea — a defining Kaikōura landscape.
Return to Christchurch, arriving back in the early evening after a day focused on wildlife, scenery, and one of New Zealand’s most celebrated marine environments.
This tour concludes with drop off to your accommodation, approximately 6:30pm.
