FAQs

Answers to common questions about Leisure Tours day tours from Christchurch. If you cannot find what you need, email us at info@leisuretours.co.nz.

Where do your day tours operate?

Our day tours operate from Christchurch. We also offer extended options around New Zealand for touring. Please see the website for all current tours.

What time do tours start and finish?

Start and finish times vary by itinerary and day of operation. You’ll find the exact schedule on your tour booking page and on your confirmation email.

Where is the pickup / meeting point?

Each tour includes specific pickup details (e.g., hotels, central meeting points, or a designated address). Please check your confirmation for your exact location and time.

Do I need to bring anything?

Most tours require:

  • A valid ticket/booking confirmation
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (NZ weather can change quickly)
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen (where relevant)
  • Water bottle

How many people will be on the tour?

Most of our tours are “small group” tours, usually no more than 10 or 15 people. We offer some tours that are very popular and these operate on full size coaches of up to 40 people. Our minimum number needed to operate a tour is usually 4.

Can I bring extra people on my tour?

This may be possible if we have spare seats on our tour vehicles. If you wish to do this then please contact our local tour guide as soon as possible and we can then make suitable arrangements. If there is a large group wishing to join one of our tours then we may be able to arrange an additional vehicle and guide at short notice, but this cannot be guaranteed. If you wish to bring additional persons on a tour then please make sure you have suitable local currency to pay any additional charges.

What happens if I fall ill on a tour?

Our guides and drivers are First Aid qualified so will be able to assist should you feel unwell or have an accident. If your illness is serious, we will make contact with a local medical practitioner and/or take you to the nearest medical centre or hospital. You should advise us of any pre-existing medical condition or allergy so that we can be suitably prepared.

Can you cater for a group booking?

Yes we can. We are happy to give you a quote for a private group of 10 or more people. Please contact us for details.

What payment options do you accept online?

We accept major credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. Your payment information is processed securely, ensuring your financial details remain safe and protected at all times. All prices and transactions on the Leisure Tours website are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include GST (NZ Goods and Services Tax) of 15%.

Is the tour suitable for kids and families?

Many of our tours are family-friendly, but age requirements can apply depending on the activity and route. Check the “Recommended for” or “Minimum age” details on the specific tour page.

Are your tours accessible for people with mobility needs?

We aim to accommodate a wide range of guests. Accessibility varies by vehicle, walking distance, and terrain. If you have mobility concerns, contact us with your needs and we’ll confirm what’s possible for your selected tour.

Wheelchairs must be collapsible and will be stored in the luggage compartment. There are stairs to board the coach, and the passenger must have a companion to assist getting on and off the coach. The coach driver is unable to provide assistance.

Our tours can include unpaved tracks or areas which would not be manageable for an accessibility walker or wheelchair. Please contact us if you require further clarification on a specific tour. Our tours are not suitable for anyone confined to an electric wheelchair.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is listed separately on the website.

What if there’s bad weather?

New Zealand weather can change quickly. If conditions affect safety or the route, we may:

  • Adjust the itinerary
  • Provide alternative activities
  • Reschedule or cancel

We’ll do our best to keep you informed as early as possible.

Do you offer refunds if the itinerary changes?

If changes are made due to weather or operational reasons, our team will aim to offer an equivalent alternative experience. Refund eligibility depends on the situation and the booking terms.

Can I reschedule my booking?

Often, yes — subject to tour availability and timing. Rescheduling may involve fees or fare differences depending on the booking type. Please check your confirmation or contact us to confirm options.

Are the tours guided?

Yes — our tours are led by experienced local driver/guides who share commentary, route details, and local knowledge. Foreign speaking guides are available on request. Our staff generally speak English, with some tours offering additional language support depending on the season and guide availability. Please ask if you need another language.

Is food included?

Some tours include morning/afternoon tea, lunch, or snacks, while others require you to purchase meals independently. Food inclusions are listed on each tour description.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

We may be able to accommodate dietary needs if advised in advance (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free). Availability depends on the meal plan and local suppliers. Let us know at booking.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes — we recommend travel insurance for all guests, especially for tours that include activities outside standard travel, due to weather disruptions, delays, or unexpected circumstances.

What if I’m late to pickup?

If you’re running late, please contact us as soon as possible using the number provided in your confirmation. Late arrivals may reduce your tour participation, and in some cases the tour may depart without you.

What should I expect on the day?

Typically you can expect:

  • On-time pickup or meeting at the designated location
  • Guided commentary and planned stops
  • Time for viewing, photos, and short walks (where applicable)
  • Drop-off back at your meeting point or hotel

Are there restrooms on the tour?

Many routes include restroom stops, but not all areas have facilities. If restroom access is important for you, contact us and we’ll advise based on the itinerary.

Is photography allowed?

Yes — generally photography is allowed at all included stops. Where photography restrictions apply (e.g., certain venues), staff will advise. Camera use is typically fine. Drone rules are more specific and may be restricted in certain areas. If you plan to use a drone, contact us for guidance on legality and permitted locations.

What are your health and safety guidelines?

For your safety, we follow standard operating procedures for:

  • Safety briefings
  • Seatbelts where required
  • Activity-specific safety rules

If you have medical conditions or concerns, tell us before booking so we can advise.

Do you have luggage restrictions?

Most tours have limited space. We recommend bringing only essential luggage for day comfort. Larger bags may not fit depending on vehicle type. Please email us if you need to bring larger pieces of luggage.
